The final season of My Hero Academia streams new episodes in the UK every Saturday on Crunchyroll.
Synopsis
Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies.
Review
We’re finally here: the final lap for the My Hero Academia story and the world’s final hope in stopping the oppressive grasp of All For One’s ultimate plan.
Picking up right where the previous season left off, we’re shown the fight between Mecha All Might taking on the original All For One in his continuously regressing state. This fight is absolutely stunning, with All Might dropping attack after attack, all inspired by Class 1-A’s Quirks. He spends the entire time taunting and smiling against All For One who, despite knowing what he’s doing, is still taking the bait. Toshinori no longer has One For All, but his spirit is still burning bright, determined to buy enough time for All For One to keep exerting his energy until he regresses out of existence.
Kicking off the final season with such a visceral and brutal battle between these old enemies was a fantastic way to prepare us for the remainder of the season. Bringing in nods to the first movie, as well as the deadly Hero Killer Stain, to shift the battle in All Might’s favor was just fist-pumpingly satisfying!
The segment involving All Might’s “ace in the sleeve” attack, which was directly linked to Can’t Stop Twinkling’s last stand and surrounded by all the other fallen heroes, felt truly heroic. It proved to us that he does have what it takes to be a hero and redeem himself beyond his past sins. This, combined with Invisible Girl’sstandout final attack, felt great. It was slightly questionable to fully reveal Invisible Girl’s appearance, but luckily it was kept PG and comical enough to bookend their fight and shift the focus to recovery and rescue.
Verdict
This is it now, though. The majority of the side fights are wrapping up, leaving us with the main few left. Manga readers can attest that the upcoming battles should blow away anime-only fans, setting the stage for an action-heavy final season to this fantastic story.
