    Synopsis

Twenty-year-old Wren Darlington is not your ordinary Mod: she’s one of the most powerful in existence. But her world is divided. On the Continent, being a known Modified means certain death, as the Primes—those immune to the biotoxin that nearly wiped out the population 150 years ago—want nothing more than to eliminate those who were enhanced by the toxin and developed psychic powers.

Wren has survived all these years by concealing her abilities and keeping a low profile while doing what she can to aid the rebel Uprising in fighting against the Primes’ oppressive rule. But one careless mistake places her in the crosshairs of the Continent’s military, and she is forced to join their most elite program: Silver Block. Unwittingly, her enemy has given her—and the Uprising—the perfect opportunity to strike a devastating blow from inside their ranks. That is if she can keep her powers hidden, survive training, and prove herself to Cross Redden, her cocky, maddeningly attractive commanding officer.

Despite the explosive chemistry between them, Wren cannot let Cross get in the way of her mission. But as war rages between Mods like her and those who aim to destroy them, emotions run high, and secrets are revealed, forcing Wren to decide how far she’s willing to go to protect herself…and how much of the Continent is worth saving.

    Review

If you’re in the market for a new book that will consume your every waking second and keep you on the edge of your seat, then you need to pick up a copy of Silver Elite ASAP! As far as introductory novels in a trilogy go, Silver Elite bursts onto the scene as one of the hottest must-reads of 2025. It masterfully mixes the best elements of YA dystopian novels like The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner—dark, political, and action-packed—with the spicy, will they, won’t they, romantic qualities seen in books like Fourth Wing and A Court of Thrones and Roses. If you’re a fan of the titles just mentioned, then you will love everything Silver Elite has to offer.

Silver Elite invites readers into a dystopian world where survival, power, and passion come together in a thrilling quest for freedom. This introductory book into a new trilogy is not just about setting the stage; it’s a delightful surprise that goes above and beyond. It masterfully blends rich world-building, engaging character introductions, and fascinating lore in a way that feels effortless. It does an incredible job at not only keeping you thrilled but wanting more. More information, more understanding, more story, more action, just more. While Silver Elite is very much the first book in a series, what makes it so special is that it shines on its own as a complete story while also hinting at something even bigger waiting in the wings.

The first 100 pages of a book are often very telling about the type of story and experience it will be—so they need to make a mark. Here, Silver Elite pulls you in close, sinks its claws in, and never lets go. You are introduced to Wren Darlington, a punchy, witty, and mysterious protagonist, and you are sucked into her world. Wren has specific abilities that she has to hide for her own protection. The regime within her world is actively seeking and killing her kind, “Mods”, as they’re referred to. When one thing leads to another, Wren finds herself in an enemy’s hands, being forced to train for the Silver Elite, comprising her safety. Her goal? Get out alive. It’s a riveting set-up that immediately grabs your attention and keeps you second-guessing; it’s brilliant.

Alongside a punchy introduction, Silver Elite also manages to stick the landing. Dani Francis has clearly taken a leaf out of Sara. J Maas’s book on how to leave an impression, as the last 100 pages of Silver Elite are full of twists, shocking reveals, and, of course, more questions than answers. If you’re not familiar with Sarah J. Maas, her writing is renowned for its ability to pack an incredible amount of story into those final 100 pages (and an incredible amount of fear into the reader). It feels like an entire book’s worth of material is packed into those 100 pages—they’re filled with death, chaos, and unexpected reveals, creating an atmosphere where nothing is certain, which makes for a thrilling reading experience. All this to say, Silver Elite taps into this style of storytelling, excellently wielding and utilising this fast-paced nature to keep you second-guessing till the very end.

Dystopian novels are typically packed full of characters, lore, powers, political commentary, action, and sometimes romance, and Silver Elite ticks every box (and then some). However, above all these aspects, what shines the most is the characters, especially our main character, Wren. She’s the quintessential archetype we’ve encountered before in this style of story—think Katniss Everdeen and Beatrice Prior. She has a familiarity about her, which is comforting. She’s powerful, dynamic, and full of sarcasm, making her feel recognisable within the genre, yet she’s infused with a refreshing spark that makes her feel brand new. It’s like reading a classic novel with a clever twist. The same could be said for the rest of the book. It contains elements—whether story beats, character archetypes, or powers—that feel familiar. However, Dani Francies spun them into something new and exciting.

    Verdict

Silver Elite stands out as one of the hottest must-read novels of 2025, thanks to its captivating blend of beloved elements from YA dystopian fiction and romance. From its dark political subtext and nail-biting action to its spicy romance, Silver Elite is masterfully crafted to keep readers hooked. Plus, with dynamic characters like Wren Darlington leading the charge, Dani Francis has created a world that’s familiar yet refreshingly new. Its beautifully nuanced and complex world, characters, and plot consume you, inviting you in and making it hard to put down. And what makes Silver Elite all the more thrilling is it’s the first puzzle in a sizzling trilogy, so it naturally leaves you craving more. As you turn that last page, you’ll find yourself eagerly anticipating the next instalment—this journey is just beginning, and you won’t want to miss a moment of it!
