Tomorrow we bring you our review of the first ever streaming event movie set in the Star Trek Universe. Starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh, Star Trek: Section 31 marks a huge departure for the franchise as it looks to remain fresh in the streaming era. But before we can tell you exactly what we think about the film we have plenty more to celebrate.
Paramount+ has been slowly drip-feeding fans with images and posters for the event. But now they’ve gone ahead and released a HUGE batch of new stills which put the spotlight on the film’s ensemble cast. Of course there are plenty of new shots of Yeoh’s former-Emperor Philippa Georgiou. But there are also plenty of new looks at Alok (Omari Hardwick), Quasi (Sam Richardson) and Lt. Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl).
As there are just so many images we thought we’d highlight some key shots we think you need to see. First up we’ve got a new look at Miku Martineau who plays a young Philippa Georgiou in flashback sequences. Alongside action in the present day, Section 31 will also explore Georgiou’s history within the Terran Empire.
Naturally exploring how Georgiou became Emperor in the Mirror Universe leads to a few more scenes of Michelle Yeoh suited up before her move to the Prime Universe. Fans of Star Trek: Discovery will no doubt get a kick out of seeing familiar territory from that series time in the Mirror Universe.
Omari Hardwick’s Section 31 leader, Alok, is absolutely a character to watch in Section 31. Not only does his character have a very interesting relationship with Philippa Georgiou. He also has a back story which is intrinsically tied to the legacy of Star Trek. If there is ever more storytelling with these characters he is certainly someone we would like to see return.
Speaking of Trek legacy, meet Melle (Humberly González) a Deltan who forms part of Alok’s Section 31 team. The bald head should tell you all you need to know and no she isn’t related to Sir Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard. Deltan’s are a race first introduced in Star Trek: The Motion Picture after having originally been conceived for the scrapped Star Trek: Phase II series.
At last week’s special screening of the film here in London actor Rob Kazinsky discussed the practical suit he wore as Zeff. It certainly sounded like the heavy suit was a beast to contend with on set but what’s clear on screen is just how much Kazinsky appreciated being a part of Star Trek history. More on that Q&A with Kazinsky and Michelle Yeoh tomorrow!
Let’s take a look at the rest of the brand new stills:
Alongside Yeoh, Section 31 also stars Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, Miku Martineau and James Hiroyuki Liao.
