Tomorrow a brand new vision of DC’s Dark Knight will begin with the release of Batman: Dark Patterns #1. Masterminded by acclaimed writer Dan Watters (Doctor Who), the twelve-issue series will tell a series of lo-fi, mystery focussed Batman stories unlike any other.
Set during the early years of Batman’s career, the series delves into four mysterious cases as he attempts to cement his place as Gotham City’s protector while the city itself fights back against him. This is the Dark Knight Detective at his most stripped-down core, a man relying on his wits, his skills, and little else as he tackles some of the most twisted mysteries Gotham City and its protector have ever encountered.
Case 01: We Are Wounded
A series of sickeningly gruesome murders has sent shock waves through Gotham. Are these the random works of a serial killer, or is there something more sinister at play? Batman attempts to get to the bottom of the mystery before any more victims are claimed.
The main cover artwork on issue #1 comes from series artist Hayden Sherman. The first issue will also release with a cool variant cover from The Riddler: Year One artist Stevan Subic. Here’s a first look at both cover designs:
DC has also released four fully-lettered preview pages from issue one showing off the incredible artwork also by Sherman. Colours on these pages are by Tríona Farrell and letters by Frank Cvetkovic.
Batman: Dark Patterns #1 will release in comic book stores and on digital platforms on December 11, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.
