Later today the review embargo will lift on the first entry in DC Studios’ burgeoning DCU franchise. Creature Commandos, entirely written by creative studio head James Gunn, will debut its first two episodes on Max in the US Thursday. But before we get to those reviews (and that debut) we’re taking a look at official stills from the series’ first episode, “The Collywobbles”.
Creature Commandos tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option. Think The Suicide Squad but even more monsterous!
The first episode follows the team as Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) sends them on a mysterious mission Eastern Europe in an attempt to thwart the plans of evil sorceress Circe (Anya Chalotra). What happens when they get there? Well that would be spoiling all the fun…

The series stars Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
The series premieres on Max with two episodes on December 5, 2024 with new episodes streaming weekly through January 9, 2025.
