The annual Star Trek Day celebrations took place yesterday. Whilst there was no live stream like in previous years that didn’t mean Paramount+ didn’t have any surprises for us. The streamer debuted a new clip and artwork for the upcoming final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks.
The series returns on October 24, 2024 with two brand new episodes. The final season will their air new episodes weekly until a bumper, extended series finale on December 19, 2024.
The clip below shows off the return of Tendi (Noel Wells) who was last seen exiting the U.S.S. Cerritos to return home to Orion. In true Lower Decks tradition the clip also features the return of a classic character, Palor Toff (Nehemiah Persoff) who first appeared in The Next Generation episode “The Most Toys”. In season 5 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” – subspace rifts which are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford…if they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries and scariest of all: their own career aspirations. This upcoming season on Paramount+ is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.
As well as that cool new clip, the streamer has also revealed the first poster artwork for the final season. As per Lower Decks tradition the poster artwork takes inspiration from the poster for the corresponding film in the Star Trek pantheon.
The Starfleet crew residing in the “lower decks” of the U.S.S. Cerritos includes Ensign Beckett Mariner, voiced by Tawny Newsome; Ensign Brad Boimler, voiced by Jack Quaid; Ensign Tendi, voiced by Noël Wells; and Ensign Rutherford, voiced by Eugene Cordero. The Starfleet characters that comprise the U.S.S. Cerritos’ bridge crew include Captain Carol Freeman, voiced by Dawnn Lewis; Commander Jack Ransom, voiced by Jerry O’Connell; Lieutenant Shaxs, voiced by Fred Tatasciore; and Doctor T’Ana, voiced by Gillian Vigman.
The first four seasons of Star Trek: Lower Decks are available to stream on Paramount+ as well as available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital platforms.
