Paramount+ has announced another piece of the puzzle in the cast of the espionage political thriller The Agency for Paramount+ as a series regular. The series, currently in production in London, is commissioned by Showtime Studios and produced in association with 101 Studios. George Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce through Smokehouse Pictures.

John Magaro joins the cast as “Owen,” anOperations Officer and agent handler. He joins 2x Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender and previously announced series regulars Jeffrey Wright (“Henry”) Jodie Turner-Smith (“Sami”), Katherine Waterston (“Naomi”) and Richard Gere(“Bosko”).

The all-new political thriller follows Martian (two-time Academy Award nominee Fassbender), a covert CIA agent, ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage. Turner-Smith will play Sami Zahir, a Professor of Social Anthropology who has a history with Martian, played by 2x Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender. She joins previously announced series regulars Jeffrey Wright (Henry) and Richard Gere (Bosko).

Magaro has spent his career nurturing an impressive body of work that encompasses film, television, and theatre. He just wrapped production on The Bride for Warner Bros. with Christian Bale, Penelope Cruz and Annette Benning. He will next be seen as the lead opposite Peter Sarsgaard in September 5, which will world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival. John was recently seen in Celine Song’s Past Lives opposite Greta Lee, which was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. John was also featured in Showing Up, opposite Michelle Williams, in a reunion with Kelly Reichardt. No stranger to the small screen, Magaro most recently appeared opposite Elliot Page in the hit Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way. He was also seen in the Amazon series Jack Ryan alongside John Krasinski, and starred as the young male lead in Amazon’s Crisis In Six Scenes opposite Rachel Brosnahan, Miley Cyrus and Elaine May.

A fresh take on the critically acclaimed hit French drama The Bureau (Le Bureau des Legendes), THE AGENCY will stream internationally on Paramount+ in the UK, Canada, Australia, Italy, Germany, Latin America, Brazil and Japan. The series is co-distributed internationally by Paramount Global Content Distribution and Federation Studios.

The Bureau centers on the daily life and missions of agents within France’s principal external security service. It focuses on the “Bureau of Legends,” responsible for training and handling deep-cover agents on long-term missions in areas with French interests. Living under false identities for years, these agents’ missions are to identify and recruit good intelligence sources. The Bureau – Le Bureau des Légendes was created by Eric Rochant and is a CANAL+ Creation Originale series produced by TOP – The Originals Productions and Federation Studios.

Commissioned by Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and produced in association with 101 Studios, THE AGENCY is executive produced by Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz (Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios); David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin and Bob Yari (101 Studios), George Clooney and Grant Heslov (Smokehouse Pictures); Alex Berger (TOP – The Originals Productions); and Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton (Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America). Jez and John-Henry Butterworth are writers and executive producers; Joe Wright is executive producer and director for the first two episodes.
