Comics legend Peter Milligan (Hellblazer, Enigma) and veteran artist Raül Fernandez (Detective Comics, Justice League Dark) pen a mind-bending murder mystery that treads the precarious razor’s edge between reality and fiction in Profane, coming from BOOM! Studios in Summer 2024.
Will Profane is a seasoned private eye, and solving murders in the sunbaked streets of Los Angeles is his daily bread. But something is strange about his latest case. Every clue leads him back to a world famous crime novelist lying at the centre of this mystery–and dangerous truths about Profane’s own life.
“I’m excited by Profane, exploring as it does the twisty, noir atmosphere that I like, and with the weirdness and existential angst I like even more. A story like this needs the right artist and Raül Fernandez is not only a great artist but a truly perfect match,” said writer Peter Milligan
“I never could have imagined I’d have the opportunity to create a new series with completely original characters, and with an extraordinary writer like Peter, whom I’ve admired for years, let alone a book like Profane,” said artist Raül Fernandez. “So full of mystery, emotion, and twists you will never see coming!”
Once named Entertainment Weekly’s “Man of the Year,” Peter Milligan was at the forefront of the revolution in which comicswere created for a more sophisticated, adult audience. Shade the Changing Man for Vertigo skewered American culture, while Enigma, Face, and Rogan Gosh pushed the boundaries of what comic books could do. The hugely-popular X-Statix was described by Kevin Smith (CLERKS, etc.) as “the most well-observed scholarly analysis of media-manipulation filtered through a pop-culture lens ever committed to the page.”
Raül initially went “the way of the inker” and he worked with Ramon F. Bachs, Manuel Garcia, Alvaro Martinez, and Cian Tormey on books for Marvel and DC Comics. His first published work as a full artist was a story starring the Phantom Stranger for DC Comics’ DC’s Terrors Through Time written by the legendary Paul Levitz.
Profane #1 will be available in comic shops June 5, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.
