Well this is certainly one way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! To our complete surprise Marvel Studios has used today’s celebrations to confirm the long (long!) rumoured casting for the previously announced Fantastic Four movie.
The press has been calling Pedro Pascal our Mr. Fantastic, aka Reed Richards, but now the news is official. The Last of Us and The Mandalorian megastar will be joined by Mission: Impossible franchise star Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm aka the Invisible Woman. Kirby has been a front-runner in the press for a while now having overtaken the once rumoured Margot Robbie.
Still riding high after making a huge impression on us as Eddie Munson in the fourth season of Stranger Things, Joseph Quinn will be the new Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch. Quinn takes over the role once played by Captain America himself, Chris Evans. Rounding out the cast is The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm aka The Thing.
The news was made official on Marvel’s social media channels with some incredible new artwork:
WandaVision director Matt Shakman was previously confirmed to direct Fantastic Four from a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.
Marvel Studios has also confirmed that it is swapping Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts release dates in 2025: The latter will now kick off summer on May 2, while Fantastic Four will go July 25. That puts the first family of Marvel up against James Gunn’s DCU film in the DCU, Superman: Legacy, which releases just two weeks earlier on July 11.
