The ocean is calling again, and we definitely didn’t see this one coming. You might say… It came out of the blue… For a while now, we’ve all known about the live-action Moana adaptation, but we never anticipated a follow-up to the 2016 hit. Bog Iger revealed that Moana 2 is indeed in the works with a release date set for November 27th, 2024. Surprisingly, Iger revealed that they had originally planned a TV series, but ultimately went for a second film.
“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise, and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when ‘Moana 2’ comes to theaters this November,” Iger said.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
