Potential casting news overnight for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Deadline is reporting that British actor Nicholas Hoult has joined the cast of the DCU’s first big screen release as none other than Lex Luthor!
According to the trade, DC Studios has been searching for a recognisable name to play the role opposite relative newcomer David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. It is understood the studio completed the casting process following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Hoult is no stranger to working with Warner Bros. having starred in Mad Max Fury Road. Comic book fans will also remember his turn as Hank McKoy, aka Beast, in X-Men: First Class, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse. This year Hoult co-headlined the brilliant Renfield with Nicholas Cage.
Hoult’s casting comes hot on the heels of last week’s announcement that Venezuelan actress María Gabriela de Faría had landed the role of villain The Engineer. With filming set to begin early in 2024 the cast of the Gunn directed film is slowly but surely coming together.
Corenswet and Hoult will also be joined by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
The film is due to hit cinemas on July 11, 2025.
