Sad news for Star Trek fans as it has been revealed tonight that Paramount+ has reversed its season 2 renewal of Emmy-award winning animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. The news comes as the series is currently wrapping up post production on its second season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the Paramount Global-backed streamer has also cancelled Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Queen of the Universe and The Game. The news comes as the streamer is set to remove all previous episodes of each show, enabling them to take a tax write-off and ultimately saving money.
Prodigy was initially renewed for a second season back in November 2021. Production began in 2022 and continues now as the series had initially been set to return later this year. Now Paramount is looking to shop the series, including the previously aired first season, to a new home.
Cast and crew of the series have been reacting to the news on social media with shock and a fair amount of upset:
Developed for TV by Kevin and Dan Hageman, Star Trek: Prodigy stars Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Angus Imrie, Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker and Jason Mantzoukas. The series also marks the return of Kate Mulgrew as a holographic version of Captain Janeway.
