Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is now out in cinemas, proved to be quite popular among audiences. In 68 overseas markets, Paramount’s 7th installment in the blockbuster franchise jumped to a $110m opening weekend. Combined with the domestic figures (US market), the long-awaited return of the Autobots opened to $170.5m, which trumped previous projections of $155m.
However, the film technically underperformed in China. While it opened with $40 million, it was originally projected to make $50m. Despite that, Rise of the Beasts is still the second best start for a hollywood film this year.
On top of that, this is actually the biggest opening weekend for the Transformers franchise in 8 different markets; Indonesia, Argentina, Peru, Vietnam, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt and Bolivia.
While it may not soar to the figures of previous Transformers movies, such as Dark of the Moon which grossed over $1 billion, this opening proves that the Transformers franchise still has fuel in its engine.
