Patience is one of the first things you learn as a youngling, and as Star Wars fans have proved time and time again… We are a very patient bunch. At the 15th Star Wars Celebration, which took place in London over the weekend, Lucasfilm unveiled the first full teaser for Ahsoka and it was glorious.
Ahsoka Tano, the Togruta from the planet called Shili, first entered our lives over 20 years ago after being created by Dave Filoni and George Lucas. After a long history in the realm of animation, Ahsoka quickly became a fan favourite. From Padawan to Jedi, to outcast and now Rebel, Ahsoka is gearing up for her big moment in the spotlight and the first trailer teases a lot.
We got our first officialy look at Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Hera Syndulla, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo who will be playing Sabine Wren. Both of these characters first appeared in Star Wars: Rebels and they’ll be hanging around to help Ahsoka in her search for their long lost friend Ezra Brudger (Eman Esfandi). Although, as the trailer teases… A lot has changed so it may not be the easiest reunion in the galaxy.
We also have some brand new villains. Celebrations revealed that Ivanna Sakhno will be playing Shin Hati, and Ray Stevenson will be playing a former Jedi called Baylon. Not a great deal is known about their characters, but their orange-tinted lightsabers seem to be causing quite the fuss. Who are they really? Filoni teased that “nothing is accidental.”
On top of that, we also got our first look at the brilliant Grand Admiral Thrawn. His reveal got the biggest reaction at Star Wars Celebration which was then amplified by the official casting. Lars Mikkelsen, the original voice actor for Thrawn in Rebels, will be back as the calculative Chiss mastermind and we cannot wait for his live-action debut.
With Filoni looking to direct a movie that encompasses and potentially concludes the entirety of the Disney+ shows, our theory is that we may get some sort of loose adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire. It may not include the same characters, but it could certainly revolve around this huge galactic fight to beat Thrawn and his rising Empire.

Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka will stream exclusively on Disney+ sometime in August, 2023. Dave Filoni serves as the show’s writer, executive producer and showrunner. We’ll be sure to keep you posted once a more precise date is announced.
