I love action figures. I love the memories they bring and the fun they create. Toys, particularly those of the transforming variety, may have an age range assigned to them, but I like to think that toys are for everyone regardless of age. Those ranges are more like guidelines, and Hasbro’s latest wave of action figures proved just that. Transformers: War for Cybertron came out on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2010. War For Cybertron is 13 years old… That’s almost half my age. The youth of today probably don’t have the luxury of remembering the loading screen for the Xbox 360 and PS3, nor would they have easy access to one of the best Transformers games out there, especially with an entire library of modern games to play. They are missing out, that’s for sure.
I played War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron repeatidely, and that’s something I’ll dive into later on while on this road to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. For now, let’s take a look at something incredibly exciting.
Hasbro have revealed a new wave of Studio Series figures. This new wave actually marks their first endeavour into video game territory. These figures still embody the spirit of the Studio Series line with its high-detailed accuracy, but instead focus on bringing the more stylised Cybertronian forms represented in the video game trilogy. There are many characters to choose from, but to kick things off they’ve opted for Optimus, Bumblebee and Decepticon Barricade. A pretty good line up, if you ask me.
The nostalgia hit me like an energon axe to the face.
These figures look absolutely amazing. Not only were the games fantastic to play, the War For Cybertron trilogy delivered some of the coolest Transformer designs we’ve seen in a long time. Even the vehicle modes were awesome. They felt completely unique, but you could still tell who was who. I certainly hope Hasbro plan to explore this range further with characters like Megatron and Starscream.
Which one is your favourite? And which other characters would you like to see get the Studio Series treatment? Make sure you let us know in the comments.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be unleashed in cinemas on June 9th, 2023. Don’t forget to check out more from the world of Transformers right here.
