Review
The DeadZones are now wide open leaving our planet vulnerable to all kinds of evil, the underground trade of human brains is becoming an issue detectives Sam and Twitch are doing their best to hunt down those involved but sometimes it needs a little less finesse and more of a straight forward approach, step forward Spawn as he intercepts the Ferryman he makes his quick escape just as Spawn comes across a photo that changes everything. The evidence points to the Exodus Foundation and that they are highly involved in this illicit trade, but how can they infiltrate such a big corporate entity?
Spawn brings the hunt for answers to the gritty downtown streets and to see Al’s close friend Terry as the photo is means someone quite close to Terry is deeply involved. When you have Spawn involved in the hunt for the truth you know the truth will be eventually found at whatever the cost, but what will be the cost? I have a feeling that the answers that are found may not be what is expected or indeed wanted.
I’m hooked on the writing of Sean Lewis his style hits on different levels, he brings raw emotion and personal anguish into an dark action packed story. As much as I do like most Spawn titles King Spawn for me seems to have a more edgy feel to it as the story cuts a little deeper.
Javi Fernandez has again brought out the big guns in terms of illustrations here, another issue with highly detailed artwork that highlights the impactful nature of the story, the story is raw and the artwork make sure the story hits the right notes.
Verdict
King Spawn as a series goes from strength to strength taking different paths that opens the story further and keeps the reader’s engaged. If you haven’t read King Spawn you are definitely missing out on one of the best series in comics right now.
