Universal and Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie will now be coming to the big screen earlier than expected. It’s not a massive leap, but we’ll certainly take it. Mario fans and animation fans alike will now be able to check out the highly anticipated video game adaptation two days early. The new release date is now Wednesday, April 5th- rather than its original release on April 7th.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie will also release in more than 60 markets around the world under this new date, including China, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Brazil Mexico and the U.K. and Ireland.
In addition to that, various markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe will receive the film later in April and ub May. To coincide with the Golden Week Holidays, Japan will be releasing The Super Mario Bros. Movie on April 28th, 2023.
The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi. The cast also includes Jack Black as the villainous Bowser Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Amisen as Cranky Kony, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
This new animated film will be produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously collaborated on theTeen Titans Go! series, will be directing this animated adventure. The screenplay of the film will be written by Matthew Fogel, whose writing credits include The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Illumination’s film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
