It’s been almost three years since Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was first announced at DC FanDome in 2020. But during the first PlayStation State of Play event of 2023 we got our best look yet at the May release.
Hailing from Rocksteady, makers of the blockbuster Arkham Trilogy, the same is confirmed to take place in the same universe. Set five years after the events of Arkham Knight, players will explore a fully realised Metropolis after it has been taken over by the invading forces of Brainiac. With the Justice League under his control, players will take on the role of Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad in order to save Earth.
The below extended trailer picks up as the Squad faces down The Flash in a huge boss battle with Braniac’s forces. The clip also gives us our first look at Lex Luthor, who is finally confirmed to be involved with the game’s story. Keep watching and you might also get your first look at a member of the Justice League who we haven’t yet seen in the game’s marketing…
But it doesn’t end there. The news just keeps on coming. Following the gameplay reveal, the State of Play event also featured an 8 minute featurette which dived deeper in to some of the mechanics behind the game. We learned that each character’s gear can be upgraded throughout the main campaign, allowing players stronger weapons and powers. It was also confirmed that an online connection is required, giving us the long-rumoured confirmation that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a live-service title.
The developers did confirm that work has now moved on to post-launch content which is said to include new characters and missions.
Check out the full featurette in the player below:
