According to a report via Variety, Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed the 2010 triumph How To Train Your Dragon and its two sequels, will be returning to Berk to direct a live-action adaptation. The film is currently stated to soar into cinemas on March 14th, 2025.
La La Land and Bridge of Spies‘s Marc Platt will produce the film alongside Adam Siegel. Currently, Platt is busy working on Universal’s adaptation of John M. Chu’s Wicked.
That’s all we know right now. We know it’s not much, but at least it’s something, right? It’s early days, so we probably won’t hear much for quite some time. However, having DeBlois back as both Director and writer is an excellent start. We can’t wait to see what Toothless and the other wonderful dragons will look like in live-action. Can it capture the charm and beauty of the original animated film? Well, that’s the all-important question, isn’t it?
Based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, How To Train Your Dragon follows a misfit viking called Hiccup who befriends a Nightfury. Together, Hiccup and Toothless redefine the hostile relationship between Viking and Dragon. The popular franchise has generated over $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office, and has ventured far beyond the big screen with multiple TV series and live shows- Which we missed.
