Static: Season 2 #1 is published by DC Comics, written by Nikolas Draper-Ivey and illustrated by Vita Ayala and Nikolas Draper-Ivey.

Issue #1 is available 7th February 2023 either directly from DC Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Static is back! Though Virgil and his friends might have been able to stop the government’s off-the-books prison operations in Dakota, a powerful new threat lurks in the shadows. The mysterious Ebon is cutting a bloody swath through the underworld on a single-minded quest to find his brother. Against this backdrop of exploding violence, innocent people are finding themselves in the crossfire. The breakout creative team of Nikolas Draper-Ivey and Vita Ayala have returned to make Static’s life, and Dakota City, very complicated indeed-you’ve never felt shocks like these!

    Review

In this issue we see the return of an icon of comics, Static Shock. He is once again protecting the streets and the citizens of Dakota city. Virgil is again the man behind the mask as he may have helped smooth over the government’s hush hush prison operations there now is a more immediate threat as the mysterious Ebon rips through the underground on a determined mission to find Virgil’s brother, although Virgil vowed to protect the public this time it’s personal and Virgil or Static must step up and protect the Bang Babies, the group of advanced intelligent young minds. It’s a heart thumping race against time for Static as Ebon begin to administer their evil plan they must be stopped at all costs, but the question would be can they be stopped?

This season was an introduction to the Static character and thanks to the incredible writing skills of Nikolas Draper-Ivey I was blown away, I absolutely loved the action packed tongue in cheek story that explodes on every page giving me Miles Morales vibes, which being one of my favorite recent films that really is a compliment. In the comic world the field is normally cram packed with heroes of all shapes and sizes so it’s hard for another one to make it’s mark, Static most definitely stands tall in this world and I will definitely look forward to more issues.

It wasn’t just the story that blew me away the illustrations were nothing short of a masterpiece, Vita Ayala and Nikolas Draper-Ivey combine their artistic talents to create a visual symphony that elevates the story and creates a visual world that invites the reader to a world that leaves you breathless.

    Verdict

A full marks 5⭐️ is well deserved here, when a comic leaves you saying “wow” when you finish reading you just know you have a masterpiece in your hand. An incredible job done by all the creative team.
