Review
In this issue we the focus moves from the Rangers to delve a little deeper into the evil that is Rita Replusa or Mistress Vile as she now prefers. We take a step back to find what made the iconic evil villain so evil, what we see is a family feud that even Jerry Springer would struggle with Master Vile is desperate for Dark Spectre’s approval and the power that he is able to bestow on Vile and he isn’t bothered who gets in his way even if it means eradicating his family in the process, however the tables are about to turn as Mistress Vile is about to be born in the uktimate betrayal.
In this issue I was a bit sceptical once I saw that the Rangers weren’t to be seen but allowing Melissa Flores the platform to create a back story of one of the most iconic villains is a stroke of genius and only enhances the overall strength of the ongoing series, for a series to be at #104 and still as strong as ever is a credit to the quality of the writing.
Illustrations are from the immensely talented Simona Di Gianfelice, each panel is incredibly detailed and tells the dark sadistic story of Rita Replusa perfectly giving the story a deeper dimension with the vibrant tones that are used.
As I said earlier I was sceptical about this issue with the Rangers missing but the back story of Mistress Vile (although she’ll always be Rita Replusa to me) has incredible strength and I felt it is going to be an integral part of the story going forward.
Verdict
Another fine creation from an immensely talented creative force, after this issue I am excited for the future of this series.
