Synopsis
Atom: The Beginning is an original manga based on the God of Manga Osamu Tezuka’s world-famous series Astro Boy. It works both as a prequel to the original series, telling the stories of the developers of the artificial intelligence that would eventually give birth to the iconic Atom, and as a stand-alone sci-fi manga about the turbulent lives of two robotic engineering students and their latest revolutionary project: the unassuming yet insanely strong A106, or “Six.”
Review
In this collected book we discover the origins of a story of determination and exploration that forms the foundations of the iconic Astro Boy series. The book follows two robotic engineering students Hiroshi Ochanomizu and his lab partner Umatoro Tenma trying to invent the next big thing in AI development, but the engineering school wants to pul the plug on the project funding throwing plans into disarray forcing the budding engineers to seek alternative funding causing them to go against what they originally designed A106 or “Six” for, a flyer for an underground robotic fighting tournament appears giving the duo the ideal solution, but this would mean reprogramming A106 into a full fledged fighter. As the story unfolds we can more invested in the intense soul searching and self discovery David vs Goliath style story that most readers will fine relatable.
In this book Masami Yuuki and Osamu Tezuka expertly write a story that inspires the reader and gives you a warm fuzzy feel as the team of Hiroshi Ochanomizu and Umatoro Tenma embark on a journey that will push their values but shows the potential of what can be achieved with self belief and teamwork, a very empowering story.
