Here’s a surprise which nobody saw coming. During a surprise panel at CCXP in Brazil today, Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled the first teaser poster for 2023’s Blue Beetle. The film, originally commissioned for HBO Max, will release exclusively in cinemas on August 18, 2023.
The simple poster puts Blue Beetle’s legendary Scarab front and centre and decked out in some impression neon colouring. Plot details for the film are currently still under wraps but looks likely to pit Jaime Reyes (Xolo Marideuna) against Victoria Korb, reportedly being played by Susan Sarandon.
A recently release synopsis for the film teases Jaime’s transformation from college graduate to DC super hero:
Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle stars
Xolo Maridueña, Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, Harvey Guillén, with Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez.
Blue Beetle will be released in the UK on 18th August 2023 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
