According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron’s highly anticipated Avatar: The Way of Water is set to have a fairly long runtime. Given the length of the first movie almost 13 years ago, people assumed that the sequel would be equally as long, if not long. It turns out, the upcoming sequel may just speed straight past our original prediction. Avatar: The Way of Water may clock in at around 3 hours 10 minutes.
To put that into perspective in regards to Hollywood’s mammoth tentpole movies, Avengers: Endgame is just over 3 hours long, and Cameron’s Titanic sails in at 3 hour 14 minutes. Given the scope of Avatar and what Pandora has to offer, 3 hours is completely reasonable.
Will Avatar‘s lenght deter audiences? Well, it may do for casual audiences. But for those who have been waiting for a sequel… We think it’s safe to say that many of us would actually sit through a longer cut. Regardless, people will have to go to the loo before the film starts, or hold on like a champ because we’re going to be in the cinema for quite sometime absolutely revelling in the beauty of Pandora. We can’t wait.
