To celebrate the upcoming release of Black Adam we had the immense pleasure of talking to some of the cast and crew of DC’s upcoming blockbuster which is sure to wow audiences. After speaking to the producers, we were then able to address members of the Justice Society of America- Yes! We spoke to superheroes. The wonderful Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher) and Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone) joined us for a quick chat and we took to opportunity to find out a bit more about the costume process, as well as what it was like to enter the world of merchandising. They were both an absolute joy to talk to and we cannot thank them enough for their time and engagement as we endeavoured to learn more about Black Adam. Speaking of which… Black Adam is out in cinemas in just TWO DAYS, make sure you book your tickets now.

“It was so great to see you guys on the big screen as Cyclone and Atom Smasher, it was awesome and you’re both absolutely brilliant in it! My question is, obviously you are physically ingrained in the DC Universe now and that comes with a lot of bonuses. You are now action figures, you’re on merchandise, T-shirts and POP Vinyl figures. How does it feel to be part of that world now?”
Noah Centineo
“I try to disassociate from it as much as possible.”
Quintessa Swindell
“Yeah”
Noah Centineo
“I go… That is Atom Smasher, you know? That’s Al Rothstein when he’s using his powers. I don’t really think of it as Noah Centineo in toy form [laughs]”
Quintess Swindell
“Yeah [laughs] I agree. It’s the same sorta thing”
Noah Centineo
“But… It’s f****** awesome!”
Quintessa Swindell
“It’s crazy, but it’s impossible to look at this physical thing and realise fully… You know?”
Noah Centineo
“Yeah, it’s super hard to wrap your head around”
Quintessa Swindell
“Oh it’s so strange! but a great…”
Noah Centineo
“inherently a positive experience for the both of us.”
James
“You guys had some of the coolest suits in the entire film, what was it like trying them on for the first time and seeing your character realised in real-life?”
Quinessa Swindell
“For me it informed a lot of who Cyclone was because Kurt and Bart, our costumers, in that first meeting were saying oh, this is something she made herself. Like, she’s really big into musical theatre so Maxine would just go into a costume shop and pick out all of these elements that she envisioned her hero would look like. She became that and embraced it. So, for me I was like alright cool, this is amazing… but we need boots! We need like knee-high boots and they were like yeah, let’s do it. It was so collaborative, but their vision of it was so amazing.”
Noah Centineo
“Yeah, it was just mindblowing getting in there. I put the hood on and it became real very quickly.”
