Review
In this latest issue of the of the One Bad Day series we follow the once powerful Penguin who has hit the bottom thanks to the Umbrella Man, but Penguin was never the type of person to just lay down and quit he may be pretty busted up now but with a banged up face and a heart full of vengence what we have now is a very dangerous man indeed who is intent to take back his seat at the top table of Gotham’s underworld. Unfortunately for Penguin he will need to ask favours from key figures from his past, what Penguin forgot is that he trampled on mostly everyone on his rise to the top so there aren’t many people who will gladly offer to help him back up, he does however find a a few trusted allies that are willing to help but it’s more a case of taking down the Umbrella Man rather than helping Penguin that appeals. Can Penguin rise again from the ashes? and is Gotham ready for the return of Penguin?
If it’s blockbuster comic stories you’re after then you need look no further than the One Bad Day series, John Ridley expertly writes a story of vengence which gives you a different perspective of an iconic character so much so you can’t help but have a liking for the iconic villain, I’d love to see more of this rejuvenated character and hopefully the series will explore this avenue further.
Giuseppe Camuncoli provides the artwork in this issue providing illustrations that perfectly highlight the hard hitting story written on the page, using gritty tones he really brings to life the essence of the story giving the reader a more immersive reading experience.
Verdict
Another fantastic issue from the One Bad Day series, I loved the different angle the creative team have gone with an iconic character such as Penguin and would love to see more of this rejuvenated version. A must read for all Gotham fans
