When a group of children unwittingly unleash an infernal menace on the Earth, can Kent maintain his humanity while defending those who need him most?
Review
In this issue we take a more indepth look at the character of Doctor Fate and the man behind the mask. The now ageing Kent Nelson is troubled by a demonic figure who is intent on taking its evil to the Earth realm, to defeat this demon Kent needs to become Doctor Fate a heroic figure who is basically untouchable. The story jumps forward to a group of children who break into a creepy looking cabin in a dark woods to uncover the truth of a legendary tale of a witch who died in that very spot. There was a video online that tells you how to summon the demon, but what the children don’t understand is exactly what they are about to unleash. This is where the comic begins to open up and the build up to the blockbuster film begins.
Once again Cavan Scott is involved with the writing and this time Bryan Q Miller is alongside him producing a story that adds to the hype of the new film perfectly, the story is like riding a bike up a hill starts at a nice and slow pace as you gather up the information needed then when you get to the top of the hill this is when the fun begins, the end of the book is the comic version of being at the top of the hill and the descent down is the action packed ending that fills you with excitement, a really great piece of writing.
The illustrations of the book are down to the combined talents of Jesus Merino, Kaare Andrews and Marco Santucci, the incredible detail add more of a vibrant feel to the story giving a lease of life and taking to the next level.
Verdict
A great comic release getting fans ready for the blockbuster release. A creative masterpiece that brings the series to the forefront making comic fans take notice, thanks to Hollywood influence this series is about to blow up and I can’t wait to see it.
