Time for another announcement from last night’s Star Trek Day stream. Announced by Number One herself, Rebecca Romjin, the U.S.S. Enterprise will have a new chief engineer in season 2, played by the legendary Carol Kane.
When Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns in 2023 with new episodes this brand new character, known as Pelia, will take over the engine room. Fans will of course remember that – spoilers – Hemmer (Bruce Horak) was sadly killed-off towards the end of the series first season. Pelia is described as “highly educated and intelligent” and as someone who “suffers no fools. Pelia solves problems calmly and brusquely, thanks to her many years of experience.”
We got our first look at Kane in uniform with a brand new still:
As well as revealing our brand new cast member, the series also debuted a new clip from season 2. Introduced by Melissa Navia, the clip focusses on Ortegas, the sparky helmsman in control of the Enterprise. Fans were sad that Ortegas wasn’t made the focal point of an episode in season 1, could that be about to change in season 2?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount as Captain Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Spock. Joining them are Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga and Bruce Horak as Hemmer.
