Review
In this special issue we are taken on a magical journey through the eyes of the legendary Anjani, great warrior and Planeswalker protecting the plane of Naya, the place his calls his home. Thanks to his inquisitive children we are taken on a journey through past battles in a series of short stories showing exactly what it means to be a Planeswalker.
This special issue contains a collection of great flashback stories that builds the backround of this iconic character, with intense battles and emotional journeys that will draw the reader further into the lore of the MTG multiverse.
As an introduction to the writing of Seanan McGuire I felt captivated with the intense story telling and being a big fan of the MTG comic multiverse series already I was intrigued to see what this new story would bring. I am hoping that after this we will see more of Anjani Goldmane and expand on the character as I believe this has given the character a strong foundation to build on and would love to see more.
The combined illustration talents of Nori Retherford, Jacques Salomon, Giuseppe Cafaro, Michael Shelfer and Lea Caballero brought to life the written stories with magical artwork that mesmerised me as I read and took me deep into the world of Naya leaving me wanting more at the end.
Personally I feel that this special issue is a great addition to the ongoing series and adds a fresh feel to the characters we already know giving the feeling that the MTG multiverse is bigger than we could ever imagine.
Verdict
A gripping selection of stories, laying the foundation for Anjani’s future. A wonderful addition to BOOM!’s MTG universe and, I hope, a sign of more to come.
