Well, we can’t be too surprised can we? Sonic The Hedgehog 2 quickly became the highest grossing video game movie in the US, and it didn’t take the long-awaited sequel too long to gross just over $400 million at the worldwide box office. It’s pretty impressive, isn’t it? Not only has the live-action Sonic franchise been a financial success, but it has also invigorated the franchise and unlocked a world of wonders for an entirely new generation of gamers and film lovers… And they’re not done yet.
That’s right. Today, it was announced that the third movie in the Sonic franchise would be arriving in 2024. Ben Schwartz, the genius behind our favourite blue speedster, shared the news via Twitter with a GIF of the iconic trio preparing for battle.
What awaits them this time? Well, if you stayed for the post-credit scene then you’ll know exactly what is coming next. Based purely on audience reactions, it’s safe to assume that fans are incredibly excited- and so are we.
It looks like we have quite a bit of waiting to do. We’ve dealt with worse though, haven’t we? Regardless of the wait, we’re just glad that Sonic and the team will be back on our screens once again. What a Christmas treat it will be.
