It’s been a stunning decade for director Sam Mendes. Following his two blockbuster Bond movies, the director capped off the 2010’s with the heartfelt war-epic 1917. Now, Searchlight Pictures has dated his next film for January 13, 2023.
Empire of Light is set in an English seaside town in the early 1980s. The powerful and poignant story celebrates human connection and the magic of cinema. Plot details are yet to be revealed but we do know the film stars Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman, BAFTA winner Michael Ward and Academy Award-winner Colin Firth. Co-starring are Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow, Crystal Clarke and Toby Jones.
Mendes writes and directs the film which reunites him with award-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins with whom he worked on both Skyfall and 1917.
Empire of Light hits UK cinemas on January 13, 2023.
