Last year, there was a small buzz on the internet (as usual) from fans who were demanding an Eragon adaptation. It was even trending at one point. With so many adaptations in the mix, people seem to believe that Eragon deserves a second chance… And we agree. Yesterday, we received some fantastic news via Variety who reported that we will indeed be getting what we have greatly desired. That’s right, a live-action Eragon series is in development over at Disney+.
According to sources, author Christopher Paolini will serve as co-writer on the series. Bert Saike will executive produce the series under the Co-Lab 21 banner, with 20th Television producing.
It’s early days, but we’re really hoping that the entirety of “The Inheritance Cycle” will see the light of day on the small screen. Christopher Paolini’s hit series includes four books; Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance. Here’s a side note, I remember queuing up outside Waterstones in 2008 for my copy of Brisingr.
The immersive and rather large series follows a boy named Eragon who finds a dragon egg. When it hatches, Eragon and Saphira quickly form an unbreakable friendship with the help of his mentor Brom. However, they are quickly forced to go on their very own adventure when the land of Alagaësia is threatened by the tyrannical king Galbatorix.
Of course, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation before celebrating too hard. However, this is a very good sign. Let’s just hope that this series does Christopher Paolini’s work justice.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any updates. Dragons, Dragon Riders, swords and magic? Yes, please.
