Prime Video has handed out an early season 3 renewal to hit fantasy series The Wheel of Time. The series, which has yet to premiere its recently wrapped second season, was hosting its first ever Comic Con panel when the news was revealed to stunned fans.
“I’m so thrilled that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time,” said showrunner Rafe Judkins. “The Shadow Rising has always been my favorite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honor, and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago.”
The Wheel of Time is one of the most popular and enduring fantasy series’ of all time, written by best-selling author Robert Jordan, and the series has sold over ninety million books. The story is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it and follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the incredibly powerfull all-female organization called the Aes Sedai. As she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesised to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.
The series also stars Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere, Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor and Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara.
