Tonight, The Walking Dead is holding its last ever panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con. As we’re writing this, the stars of the long-running show are sending the series off in style with one last hurrah for the fans.
Along side a pair of new trailers (not yet available in the UK) for the series’ final episodes. The fans were also delighted by not one but two surprise guests. The series’ original star, Andrew Lincoln, and his on-screen love interest Danai Gurira dropped in to enjoy the party.
The pair also brought with them our most solid news on the long-proposed trilogy of Rick Grimes movies. Back when Lincoln exited the show in season 9, it was confirmed that Rick would return in a trio of theatrically released, feature-length stories.
But now it’s been confirmed the series has been retooled in to a six-episode limited series which is currently slated to debut in 2023. Gurira has reconfirmed that she will return a Michonne in order to wrap up both characters’ storylines. Fans will recall that Michonne left the group in order to find Rick whom she believed to still be alive.
Some early key art for the series has now been revealed via the series’ official social media channels.
Lincoln and Gurira will both serve as executive producers alongside The Walking Dead showrunner Scott M. Gimple.
