Magic #16 is published by BOOM! Studios, written by Jed Mackay and illustrated by Ig Guara.

Issue #16 is available 6th July 2022 either directly from Boom! Studios online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

In Ravnica, the Metal Mage reigns as a shadowy dictator, while Vraska, Ral Zarek, and Kaya are trapped in an impossible situation, unable to escape. But can Niko, Chandra, and Garruk find Davirel Cane, Tezzeret’s elusive but potentially useful minion, and turn the tide on the side of freedom?

    Review

In this issue the path back to Ravinca presses forward as the new gang of Planeswalkers are hatching plans to take down Davriel Cane and get to Tezzeret in a more tactical way and the best way to get to him would be through one of his minions. However they will need to have their wits about them as Davriel Cane may not be the most powerful he does have the power to control other monsters of the underworld, if the gang work together and use their strengths to their advantage then the plan will maybe just work for the road back to Ravinca is getting darker and more dangerous by the day and Tezzeret must be stopped before he becomes unstoppable and one planswalker in particular might just be able to do it.

The Magic series or you would even call it a multiverse of stories has interested me from the start, the other stories have added more depth to the world but for me it’s the writing from Jed Mackay that I am most enjoying. Jed seems to continually keep evolving and the story never sits still, the Epic writing gets more intense as the story gather pace. Each character seems to grow together and the team take the story on, it must be a hard task to give all big characters their own page time and Jed has a good balance for all the characters allowing them to grow organically.

The illustrations from Ig Guara have perfectly captured the mystical world and the intense tones and colours bring to life the intense story, each board is highly detailed and gives the characters more depth.

    Verdict

An intense race against time to save the planes of the Magic universe, a great series that continues to evolve with every book. An intense series that really needs to be admired.

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐
