More news from Middle-Earth! The vast world of Hobbits, Elves, and Orcs is joining the anime realm with a brand new animated feature called The War of the Rohirrim. It was only a few months ago that we finally received a release date for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros’ upcoming endeavour. But today brings some incredibly exciting casting news.
Thanks to a report via Deadline, we now know that Succession actor Brian Cox will be voicing Helm Hammerhand, the ninth King of Rohan. Gaia Wise will voice Hera, Hammerhand’s daughter; and Luke Pasqualino will portray Wulf, a vengeful Dunlending lord hellbent on revenge. To top it off, the wonderful Miranda Otto will be reprising her role Éowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan, who will serve as the film’s narrator.
The immense voice cast also includes Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski.
So, what can we expect from The War of the Rohirrim?
“Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Hera, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.”
Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, The War of the Rohihhirm is set to be released theatrically by Warner Bros. on April 12th, 2024. The film will be animated by Sola Entertainment who have previously worked on Netflix’s Ultraman series, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, as well as various Ghost in the Shell projects.
