Here’s some news that we never saw coming. Overnight, Joker director Todd Phillips has taken to social media to confirm that a script has now been completed for a potential sequel. Not only that but original star Joaquin Phoenix appears to be onboard to return as Arthur Fleck.
In the Instagram post below, Phillips shared a look at the cover of the script which is tentatively titled Joker: Folie à Deux. The title loosely translates to a madness of two. Has Fleck’s clownish appearance inspired copycat Joker’s? Or could Harley Quinn be about to enter the ultra-violent and grounded world that Phillips has created?
Rumours have been circulation for some time that Warner Bros. was looking to get a sequel off the ground. Both Phillips and Phoenix have expressed interested in continuing Arthur’s story but only with a necessary and exciting story to tell. It certainly seems that they believe they have found just that.
2019’s Joker starred Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, also starring are Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
