Review
This issue sees King Spawn face his demons head on in a frozen wilderness, he must battle monsters to achieve his goal of finally reaching Wanda again but he is losing his strength and powers an Al in his original form begins to show, but he still has his pain and anger to power him through but dies he have enough? Can King Spawn or Al really get what he desires most? and at what cost?.
The King Spawn series has been hard hitting from the beginning and one that has pretty much hit every emotion, however this issue is a gut punch of an issue from the first one to the last it’s an emotional and at times heartbreaking read that shows a different side to the Spawn world, but don’t be concerned it hasn’t gone soft there is plenty of the well know Spawn action to keep us entertained. Sean Lewis has opened up the King Spawn character and really let the reader get inside the mind of Al and almost relate to him making it more than a normal one dimensional read.
Along with the dramatically heartfelt story line Javi Fernandez has supplied some of the most emotionally charged illustrations I have ever seen on a comic page, the illustrations perfectly capture the emotion of the written words with dark dramatic tones and pale colours that almost highlight the sadness.
Verdict
My favourite issue of the series to-date. King Spawn is the pinnacle of the Spawn Multiverse, so full of emotional depth and wonderful illustrations. A fantastic job by the creative team, leaving me waiting with bated beeath for the next issue.
