Review
This issue marks the return of Flashpoint, an alternate world where things seem real and look real but everything is anything but real, Batman is not Bruce Wayne but Thomas Wayne, a far more brutal Batman than used to. After The Flash tried to put the universe back to its calm state by altering its very existence and changing time events that lead to Thomas Wayne as Batman and other changes in the DC Universe (no spoilers here). Thomas has a race against time to find Flash and get the Universe put back to as it was to balance out time, but can it be done? Will it only make things worse?.
Flashpoint Beyond is a unique take on the Universe I thought I knew with a story I knew and loved told in a different way and it works, Geoff Johns expertly writes a story arc that envigorates the mind and has you gripped onto the pages with eyes wide open. The story arc is a pulsating action packed rollercoaster ride that grabs all of your emotions and takes you on a gripping journey, a fantastically thrilling read.
As with most DC titles I’ve read this comic is dark, Eduardo Risso adds his unique perspective on the characters that we thought we knew, each page is expertly drawn giving the reader probably one of the most immersive experiences I’ve seen in comics, I didn’t want to put this down.
Verdict
One of the finest comics this year to-date. An action-packed, emotional twist on the DC Universe and an arc which is primed to explode with catastrophic consequences.
