Review
I’m really enjoying seeing the character of Ant develope into a strong superhero character, so imagine my joy when one of my favourite comic characters joins the fray, in this issue two comic worlds collide as Spawn enters the Ant world in am epic comic crossover.
In this issue we see Hannah Washington the main character with more sassy attitude than ever before, we follow her as she searches to find answers to make sense of everything going on in her head, she needs to find Steven Richards he’ll have the answers, he may well do but can he help? Later on in the issue we see the introduction of Spawn for the epic crossover as the two comic worlds collide in the pursuit of King Spider, the unlikely duo have to join forces to take down this deadly foe.
But King Spider is mearly the tip of a superpowered maniacal iceberg and isn’t working alone, the two must hunt for Alzayah Stone he’s the top of this but they’ll need back up, who else is set to join the duo? I look forward to finding out in the next issue.
As a series I find that Ant is improving with every issue with Erik Larsen really building the character up to potentially become an iconic as other Image Comics characters, I personally felt the the introduction of Spawn into the story took it to new levels and really took the arc forward, also has potentially brought new readers that may not have picked it up previously. Erik has expertly written this arc in a way that has been building in intensity from the first issue and now as the issues pass it has become more of an edge of the seat read and I can’t get enough of it.
With Erik more or less in control of the creative side of the book, with him doing both writing and illustration, the book seems more fluid as the illustrations capture exactly what Erik is trying to portray in the story and with the continual use of bold and bright artwork it accentuates the feel of the story perfectly.
Verdict
A superhero comic with a difference. A great read with exciting undertones. This series is certainly building to something potentially huge.
