When we last heard news about director Angel Manuel Soto’s Blue Beetle the film was shifting from HBO Max to a theatrical release. Now we’re hearing that the film has started pulling together a supporting cast to star alongside Xolo Maridueña’s Jamie Reyes.
According to The Wrap, Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo and Harvey Guillén have all joined the cast of the DC Comics adaption.
Marquezine, a relative newcomer to Hollywood, will be playing the role of Jamie Reyes love interest, Penny. At this time it’s not know if Penny is based on any particular character from the source material. The role has been described as the female lead in the film.
Escobedo is set to play Milagros Reyes, the younger sister of Jaime. The character has previously appeared in the Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated movie, voiced by Kari Wahlgren. The character also appeared in the Injustice 2 video game.
At this time Guillén’s role is being kept under wraps.
Blue Beetle is currently eying a theatrical release on August18, 2023.
