Radiant Red #1 is published by Image Comics, written by Cherish Chen and illustrated by Miguel Muerto and David Lafuente.

Issue #1 is available from 9th March 2022 either directly from Image Comics or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Fan-favourite creative team Cherish Chen, David Lafuente and Miguel Muerto return for a five issue mink series telling the next unmissable story from the world of RADIANT BLACK!

To her students, Satomi Shen is a diligent middle school teacher. To her fiancé and parents, she’s the rock of their family. To the world, she’s RADIANT RED, a criminal turned matter-absorbing superhero. But with a mysterious stranger in her classroom, a nosy reporter on her doorstep, and $2.5 million hidden in the air vents of her house, she’s going to have to decide who she is, and quickly—before the world chooses for her.

    Review

The world of Image Comics’ Radiant Black is beginning to grow. We are now witnessing the development of a multiverse coming from the series created by Kyle Higgins. The latest title to come out of this world is Radiant Red, a new grittier type of superhero arc telling the story of young Satomi Shen, an everyday school teacher by day and hard fighting superhero by night.

Satomi has a criminal secret that she is keeping hidden and it’s beginning to become a struggle to keep hidden a mystery visitor on her doorstep threatens to unravel her whole facade choices will need to be made and it probably won’t be what Satomi wants.

Expanding on an already popular series with different arcs is sometimes risky to do. But the creative team behind the Radiant Black series have evolved the series in the best way, taking the series forward and developing a new multiverse with different comics all a strong as the other, Cherish Chen is perfectly placed to develop a new story arc from this world having already worked on Radiant Black, she already has the backing and trust of fans of the series so pretty much onto a winner from the off. I found the writing of Radiant Red to be rich in content and did well to develop the story of Radiant Red laying the foundations of what is to come and fits well into the Radiant Black world.

Fans of the Radiant Black series will be happy that David Lafuente and Miguel Muerto are on board to carry on the same look and feel of the popular series so Radiant Red still feels part of the world rather than a separate off shoot. The creative team have done a great job developing a new exciting story arc addition to this already exciting world.

    Verdict

A deep story with fantastic illustrations. This book is a symphony for the eyes. From the foundations that have been laid this is definitely a story arc not to be missed.
