It’s been just over 10 years since we last saw the Jackass crew on our screens putting themselves through a plethora of physical abuse for our enjoyment and while all of them are noticeably older and even us as fans have matured over this time, it was a huge relief to see that they have not lost their charm!
They don’t come alone however as they are joined by a bunch of fresh faces worthy of the Jackass mantle, ready to put themselves in some truly painful looking moments that had myself and the entire audience hauling with laughter.
It’s great to see Johnny, Steve-O, Wee Man and the others back, these folks are well versed for the carnage they agree to while making this film while newcomers such as Rachel Wolfson, Jasper Dolphin (along with his father) and Sean ‘Poopies’ McInerney are game to take on the challenges presented to them. This does make me think we will be seeing more Jackass in the near future either on TV or in Film with these new cast members taking more of the limelight and giving the OG’s a chance to finally enjoy some safe fun!
So this brings me to the biggest draw of the film, the stunts! While a lot of them are brilliantly built mechanisms of death, the team also came with ‘ultimate’ versions of stunts from the show’s past, now being done on a larger or more dangerous scale (sometimes with incredibly dangerous animals!). I don’t remember a single one not causing the cinema to roar with laughter or every man in the room wincing when another penis is put through the ringer! (Side note, there are a lot of dicks in this film, and no one gets off without at least one punch to the groin!)
There is not much else to say really, if Jackass was a show you enjoyed in your younger years, you will find this another brilliant instalment, hell even if you’ve not really watched it, at an hour and a half long, this is a perfect escape movie from the drab reality that is early 2022.
Verdict
The Jackass crew have not lost their touch, while the group has a bunch of new faces, the teeth grinding, gag inducing and belly busting stunts still have myself and an IMAX cinema full of people creasing up with laughter. It’s a perfect film for you to go see with a bunch of friends and you’ll be talking about the stunts for days to come!
