Review
In true Spawn fashion issue #6 of King Spawn is dark and with all the stunning graphic detail you expect from a Spawn comic, the Epic conclusion of this arc by Sean Lewis and it most definitely goes out with a bang.
The whole comic centres around one event with King Spawn battling to find out the much needed answers, the story also gives the reader a more indepth look into the character of Billy Kincaid whilst also clearing up other roles. Once again this issue is dark and I mean dark but it isn’t for the sake of it the story flows well and keeps the reader engaged throughout something that Spawn fans have come to enjoy from the creative team, or of the best in the business so the benchmark is set high but Sean Lewis and Todd MacFarlane have no danger in reaching that. The most interesting part of the comic for me was the final stages which heats up the story as a possible continuation with events looking to get alot worse for the King Spawn character, the arc is set to get even more darker than the standard Spawn arcs.
Sean Lewis and Todd MacFarlane would have to be one of the best comic writing tag teams in the business, the story arcs they produce issue after issue set the benchmark industry wide, it can’t be easy to reinvent such an iconic comic character but they do it with ease and it never feels like they are pulling the life out of the characters, every new spin or arc just adds more to the world we love.
Without doubt Javi Fernandes is becoming my favourite artist in comics at the moment, his illustrations really brings to life the Spawn world in full graphic detail but it never feels over done it all runs with the story and feels like it’s needed.
Verdict
Issue-by-issue I’m getting more and more involved with King Spawn. Franchise fans will love the world building whilst casual readers have a lot to enjoy from the series action roots.
