Finally. After what feels like a lifetime, although it’s probably a mere blink for an Elf, we finally have an official title for Amazon’s The Lord of The Rings series. We are proud (and incredibly excited) to announce that Amazon’s The Rings of Power will be arriving on Prime on September 2nd, 2022. That’s not the end of the good news either. To celebrate the announcement, we also received a short teaser that revealed the title in a spectacular manner.
molten metal, cooling silver, and a forge. What better way to reveal The Rings of Power than with the process used to create the Rings that would later consume Middle Earth in darkness. Over the top of the stunning visuals, a woman’s voice reciting a very familiar passage from Tolkien’s work.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.
According to the showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay, “The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.”
That’s quite an endeavour, but with multiple seasons in the works we’d imagine that’ll give them the opporunity to develop this deep narrative fully. It’s just a waiting game now.
