Review
I love a good vampire slaying action story and being a big fan of Buffy and Van Helsing I kind of had big hopes for Wolvenheart, from what I have read from Mad Cave Studios up to date I guess that I wouldn’t be let down.
Wolvenheart tells the story of a slayer called Sterling Cross who works for the Wolvenheart led by legendary Van Helsing, Stirling travels through time defeating anomalies and writing the wrongs of the dark world. After an almighty battle with histories most famous villains that took down the organisation, Sterling is trapped in an alternate dimension where the villainous group believes they have won the war, but that was just the battle as the war is far from over.
The volume depicts the epic battle of Sterling Cross as he fights through time to take down Elizabeth Bathory and her henchmen and set history to what she once was.
I personally loved every chapter in this book, once I saw that Mark London was the writer I instantly knew that I was in for an epic ride, I have previously read his Battlecats series (one of my favourite comic series) and was gripped into the world instantly, Wolvenheart definitely has that same effect bringing a long told story of Van Helsing and giving it a new twist in a way that only Mad Cave Studios can do. Mark London seems to write comics that you could definitely see on the big screen as they have such a deep story that would work so well as a movie or series, I personally would love to see a Wolvenheart series.
The illustrations from Alejandro Giraldo have taken the Mad Cave bar and elevated it to another level again, taking what seems to be Mad Cave’s signature look and feel and made it better (if that was even possible) with plenty of action with equal parts of blood and guts, this isn’t for the faint of heart but definitely for the action thrill seekers.
Verdict
As a series I am fully invested in the world of Wolvenheart, another great series from the Mad Cave library. I can see this series going on for many more issues with maybe even scope for a multiverse of other stories to continue the story and take it further, all in all another great story from Mad Cave Studios and Mark London.
