Review
The game Grow: Song of The Evertree is a step away from my norm a step away from the usual shoot stuff and blow stuff up, Grow is a far more chilled out experience and I am completely into it which totally surprised me.
You are the last of the alchemists tasked to bring back life to the Evertree and bring back the song of myora that was lost. The Evertree has been over taken by the Withering, an evil growth that is like a cancer on the land and destroying whatever is in its path, all hope is lost until you turn up. You need to start again from scratch building the world back up using your new found tools and talents.
The customisation options are great meaning you can have a cartoon version of yourself in the game, for the first time I didn’t look like a battle scared warrior more like a Disney character, it was a lot of fun to see the character come to life. Your next step is to learn how to grow plants and cultivate the land back to the beauty it once was.
As you go about your routine you interact with the other beings living in the Evertree such as the Everkins who will ask for your help in return for rewards, think of these like side missions to level up your XP these are fun little missions such as fishing and chopping down mushrooms etc.
Building up your knowledge of spells and world building is vital to the progression of the game and also a whole lot of fun
I found the whole experience of Grow spellbinding and mesmerising it completely caught me by surprise, I’ve never really been one for this type of game but I was fully invested in the story and loved exploring the vast sandbox world of the Evertree.
Verdict
A surprising contender for one of the top games of this year for me, I really enjoyed it from the outset and would highly recommend you take a look even if like me it isn’t normally your thing.
