Director Matt Reeves’ vision for Gotham City is continuing to take shape today with confirmation of a second HBO Max series. Joining the previously confirmed GCPD series will be another Gotham-based show exploring the past of Oswald Cobblepot, played in The Batman by Colin Farrell.
Overnight, Variety has exclusively revealed that Farrell has signed on to return for the project. Lauren LeFranc is attached to write the script for the series. Along with Farrell and Reeves, The Batman‘s producer Dylan Clark will executive produce under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banners respectively. Warner Bros. Television would produce.
The series will reportedly delve into The Penguin’s rise to power in the Gotham criminal underworld. Little else is known about the project at the time of writing with reps for the studio declining to comment on the casting news. Farrell will make his debut as Cobblepot in March’s The Batman which recently dropped its second trailer which you can watch below.
Written and directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman is set to star Robert Pattinson in the title role, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton.
The film is currently slated to hit cinemas on March 4, 2022.
