Lights. Camera. Action! Production is officially underway on HBO Max’s Batgirl, as confirmed by director Adil el Arbi on Instagram. Last night the director shared a quick look from the set (below) to celebrate the official first day of production.
The image of a clapperboard shows off a comic accurate logo for Barbara Gordon’s first headline movie. It also teases some interesting details on the film’s setting…
As you can see the clapperboard sits on a desk with the nameplate “Officer Barbara Gordon.” Could the version of Babs played by Leslie Grace be a working officer in the GCPD? Or is the director simply teasing fans? It certainly seems this desk is in a GCPD station, with files and police paraphernalia around the room.
It also appears the film could be partly set during the holiday season. Given the festive filming schedule it’s no surprise that Barbara’s desk also seems to be decorated with tinsel ready for Christmas.

Batgirl is written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, The Flash) and produced by Kristin Burr. The film is rumoured to release in 2022.
