Synopsis

Zadie Lu is afraid of her own shadow. She’s a teenager, so she REALLY should have grown out of that by now, right? But something weird is happening in her small town. Zadie could swear the shadows are coming to life. Watching her. Trying to KILL her. But how do you fight something you can’t even touch? And how does all of this tie in with her FAMILY, of all things?

Review

There are so many new and exciting titles coming to comics at the moment, one particular title that has caught my interest is Shadecraft. From the cover art, it certainly looks a promising title and a story that I was looking forward to get into.

The book starts like a normal coming of age story as we are introduced to the main character Zadie and her daily life and struggles in high school, however something is different with this particular youngster and it’s something dark. This particular coming of age story doesn’t just deal with the normal life issues, this book also is taking us through Zadie’s journey into the dark world of “Shadecraft”.

This is the first time I have come across the work of Joe Henderson and to be fair I found the story well written throughout, the story had a flowing continuation that kept the story logically moving page to page, the story although dark I found enjoyable to follow. Lee Garbett brings his artistic skills to the book with dramatically dark illustrations bringing the story of Zadie to life. If you’ve always wondered what is lurking in the shadows then after reading this you may start looking a bit differently.

Reading through this volume has given me a good introduction into the new story arc of Shadecraft and so far it all looks interesting for the coming issues.

Verdict

A good introduction into the world of Shadecraft, issue #5 has given us just enough to look forward to the continuation of the story arc going forward. An intense story with dramatic illustrations, great work by the creative team I’m looking forward to see what’s to come.
